Vibraphonist, bandleader, composer & arranger Nick Mancini returns to Southern California to play a few live shows and record. This concert will feature his latest project, which he’s really excited about. “The Next Step” is a  series of compositions chronicling his family’s harrowing journey from LA to Tulsa at the dawn of the pandemic during the height of tornado season, with a seven-month old, three cats, and all of their Earthly belongings in tow. Since relocating with his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nick remains a creative force on the Los Angeles jazz scene – a distinction he’s held for 15+ years and running. He continues to bring his brilliant and entertaining live performances to the stage and to record new material with some of his favorite LA musicians. This is the perfect opportunity to be up close & personal with Nick and his band in a cozy, intimate house concert setting in Glassell Park/Mount Washington with world-class sound.

Throughout his illustrious career, Nick Mancini has shared the stage and collaborated with an array of musical luminaries, from Arturo Sandoval to Kamasi Washington. His performances have graced legendary venues in both New York and LA, including the Apollo Theater and Birdland. Mancini’s festival appearances span the globe, from Scandinavia to Australia, making him a truly international artist.

Before relocating to Tulsa, Nick was the host of a monthly Jazz Tuesday at TRiP Santa Monica, and prior to that, he curated several other Jazz series including a monthly Jazz @ WitZend and ‘elastic hour’ @ Curve Line Space, which featured 150+ artists from around the globe throughout the 5 seasons. LA Weekly gave it high praise in their annual “Best of” issue. Nick has arranged and overseen the production of multiple vocal and instrumental jazz records and boasts an ever-growing catalog of independently released recordings under his own name. He’s performed at LA’s most notable jazz venues including the beloved Blue Whale, Jazz @ LACMA, Catalina Jazz Club, Vitello’s, Squashed Grapes, The Baked Potato, The Jazz Bakery, Herb Alpert’s Vibrato, Sam First, Mr. Musichead, Jazz at the A Frame, The Lighthouse, Angel City Jazz Festival, The Ford Theater, and The Greek Theater, and he looks forward to keeping his musical roots flourishing.

Nick has nine independent records. He is widely recognized by his peers and audiences as a dynamic and important performer and composer and continues to be an in-demand musician and a prominent sideman. In addition, he is also a dedicated educator and is the incoming Coordinator of Jazz Studies at the University of Tulsa, beginning in the Fall of 2024.
